Woorim Beach ‘Blessing of the Surf Tribute’

wpa78e7171_0f.jpg ALOHA – it’s Summer and this time of the year is synonymous with going to the Beach and enjoying the Surf. To launch the arrival of Summer at the Woorim Surf Beach, on Saturday 5th December the local Woorim Community have organized a Blessing of the Surf Tribute. This event includes the key elements of the highly successful ‘Blessing of the Surf’ which has been a regular major annual event at Woorim since 2005.

The history of Surfing shows that this activity originated in the Polynesian Islands and was first documented by Captain Cook’s crew. In keeping with that theme, this year’s Blessing of the Surf Tribute will focus on the Samoan Community and funds raised and Donations made on the day will go towards the Samoan Tsunami Relief Fund.

The main part of the event is the Ceremony which will be conducted by Pastor Ian Ross of the Bribie Island Christian Outreach Centre. Other events will include an Ocean Paddle, a display by the Bribie Island Surf Club and a call for good and safe surfing conditions for the coming Summer with the Conch Shell and the casting of flowers on the water by the Samoan Ambassador Mavis Lambert.

The local cafes and Coffee Shops will also be supporting the event and a donation from each meal sold will go towards the Samoan Tsunami Relief Fund.wp40696ced_0f.jpg

So come and join us for the event and then enjoy a delicious ‘Breakkie in the Park’.

The date is Saturday, 5th December. The event commences at 7:00 am sharp and Breakfast will be available from 8:00 am onwards. Registration for the ‘Ocean Paddle’ will commence at 6:30 am.

This year’s event has been organized by the local Woorim Beach Community, the Bribie Island Surf Club and the Sunshine Coast Surf Schools. For further details and media interviews contact the Co-ordinator, Gary Kuss on 3408 3653.
