Keep Australia Beautiful (Queensland) today announced the winners of its Clean Beach Challenge 2008 awards for the Moreton Bay Region. Friends of Woorim Beach is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement – Moreton Bay Region.
In making this award to Friends, the CEO of Keep Australia Beautiful, Carole Miller OAM, commented........ “This award is made to recognize the outstanding contribution to the beach community”... by Friends of Woorim Beach. The many activities mentioned by Carole in announcing this award included:
Obtaining Federal funding towards its $172,000 “Woorim Beach Dune Stabilization Project”
Collaboration with other Bribie community groups
Significant volunteer efforts towards various community initiatives including:
o Regional Arts Development Fund
o Woorim Master Plan
o Woorim Erosion Reference Group
o Woorim Shoreline Erosion Management Plan (SEMP)
o Borefields Project Reference Group
o Climate Change Adaptation Project
“They run anti-litter education programs, take a pro-active approach to land care, water watch, voluntary conservation programmes, land for wildlife commitment and school-based education programmes. The list just goes on”, Carole commented.
In accepting this award, Friends member Gary Kuss commented that the people involved with the Friends of Woorm Beach take great pride in the Woorim Community and that the Woorim Beach is a major asset of Bribie Island and a popular place for visitors. The award not only recognizes the efforts put in by the Friends of Woorim Beach but all those in the community who care for the environment and the Beach’s on-going viability.
