This year Blessing of the Surf will be held in conjunction with the Dragon Abreast Boat Fundraiser.

 

At the conclusion of these events there will be a Traditional FIJIAN LOVE (or Hungi).

 

... Honouring the Ocean and its abundant life force, and recognising the need for all involved to explore and develop new ways to share the various surf zones in our coastal waters! Background:

 

This event was ‘borrowed’ from a traditional surfing event which originated in Hawaii’s winter surf season early last century and sanctioned by the Peaceful Waveriders Alliance (Hawaii).

 

On Bribie Island the inaugural 2005 Event was an outstanding success, with huge local, national and international media coverage.

 

The 2008 Blessing of the Surf will be on Saturday 25th October at Woorim Beach, Bribie Island, Queensland followed by the traditional Island Feast which this year is a FANTASTIC FIJIAN LOVO (Hungi) with Polynesian Entertainers etc.
Blessing of the Surf:
6.30am  Sign In for the Ocean Paddle and water events.
7.30am  BOTS CEREMONY COMMENCES on the Beach with Pastor Jason Smith (Centalife Christian Church, Caboolture).,and includes THE CHANT (in Hawaiian Language) with Robb Richards.,and the CALL TO THE SURF on the CONCH SHELL from the Machado Family of Sandstone Point
8.15am  LAYING OF THE FLOWERS by Samoan Ambassador Mavis Lambert
8.20am  OCEAN PADDLE commences (swimmers/boards/surf skis/surf outriggers and other water craft) around the buoys supervised by David Lammin (S.C. Surf Schools) and the Bribie SLSC.
