Woorim Beach Sat 27th October, 2007
.....honouring the ocean and its abundant life force and recognising the need for all involved to explore and develop new ways to share the various surf zones in our costal waters! Another fantastic event!! Some 200 families of all ages once again made the journey to Woorim Beach at 6:30 on a Saturday morning to take part in this World Class Event.
The Ceremony commenced on time at 7:00 am lead by our resident Pastor Jason Smith from the Centalife Christian Church in Caboolture who once again did a sterling job including providing a beautiful sunny day with gentle seas for the duration. Robb Richards led the Chant where everyone had a go at the Hawaiian language to some degree, including Robb. And then a highlight for 2007 with the Machado Family (of Hawaiian descent) of Lani, Jamie-Lee and LJ calling the audience to the waters edge by ‘blowing’ the Conch Shell, regularly seen on the great outrigger canoes on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii.
Samoan Ambassador Mavis Lambert then proceeded to lay the flowers ‘to calm the waters’ for the start of the Ocean Paddle which saw a large group of water enthusiasts including our Councillor on boards, swimmers, body-boards and our first ever ocean-going outrigger canoe go round the buoys under the supervision of the Bribie Surf School and the Bribie Island Surf Club.
The family Polynesian Summer Feast in Ocean Beach Park concluded the morning with a highlight being a ‘line’ rendition of ‘A Song for Woorim’ by Peter Meif who wrote and recorded the song for this event.
A great day, videoed once again for the Hawaii Radio and Television Corporation who control TV networks across Hawaii and the American West Coast. A DVD will be released around Christmas,
